Our Beginning
Empowering individuals through personalized care, daily support, and meaningful community involvement.
About Us
Lon’s life was shaped early by the example of his father, who was paralyzed from the waist down. Despite his physical limitations, Lon’s father had a larger-than-life personality and a deep commitment to serving others. For much of his adult life, he served as the chaplain of the Douglas County Jail, ministering to people during some of the darkest moments of their lives.
Watching his father live with strength, faith, and purpose left a lasting impression on Lon. From a young age, he learned both what it meant to care for someone with a physical disability and, more importantly, that a disability never defines a person’s potential.
In 1999, Lon and Lisa opened their home to begin serving adults with special needs while raising a family of their own. What started as a calling within their home has grown into a mission that has touched many lives.
For more than 25 years, the Chanan family has witnessed tremendous growth through the work of the foundation. Throughout it all, Lon and Lisa remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve and to learn from the incredible individuals and families who are part of the Chanan community.
We're Here For You
Individualized Care
We believe that all people, regardless of disability, have inherent qualities which can benefit society. We also feel they will attain whatever goals they pursue when allowed self-expression. The Chanan Foundation currently serves our friends with disabilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week, depending upon the level of the client’s need. Every day we have clients spending time in the community at various locations as part of our community inclusion program. All services focus on helping our friends acquire, maintain, and enhance the skills needed to live the most full and independent lifestyle possible. Community involvement for our friends with developmental disabilities is strongly promoted and encouraged.
